INDIA | RABARI
The Rabari are semi nomadic goat herders who live in the Rann of Kutch,a desert region in the state of Gujarat,India.Nomadic pastoralists, they migrate across this vast desert region for eight months of the year searching for grazing & carrying all their possessions on their camels.
About twenty five years ago I arrived in Bhuj (the capital of Kutch) & then ventured out into the desert 'villages' to get to know more about their traditions, culture & lifestyle. In 2001 there occurred a major earthquake which killed up to 200000 people & destroyed close to half a million homes in this region.Since then most of their dwellings have been rebuilt using earthquake resistant materials, therefore completely changing the look & style of these villages
